Where the fun starts

This is a portal developed out as a Course Set where core learning modules exist. Please see sidebar menu for specific modules. There is a logic to the order as modules build as you go down the list, though they are developed where they are also stand-alone.

Organism Biology

If you are new to marine invertebrates, start here. The Organism Biology section covers the fundamental biology of the animals the lab works on — oysters, clams, mussels, sea stars, and corals — assuming no background in invertebrate zoology:

• Start Here — how the three phyla relate to each other, what each group brings, and the traits they share that shape every experiment the lab runs.
• Cross-Cutting Themes — the fastest single-page orientation, and the bridge into the conceptual framework below.
• Glossary and Reading List — for terms you hit in the first week, and for going deeper.

Lab Science

Beyond the technical modules, the Lab Science section holds the conceptual grounding for what we do:

• Gene Expression and DNA Methylation — start here if you know the central dogma but are new to gene regulation, gene-body methylation, or methylation assays.
• Lab Conceptual Framework — how the lab defines environmental memory, resilience, and predictive phenotyping in marine organisms, including the mechanistic channels we work on and the questions we treat as open.
• Foundational Papers — annotated index of the seven anchor papers the framework is distilled from, with PDFs where licensing allows.
